Luke Crane mentions Realm Guard!

A while back, Saint&Sinner on the Burning Wheel forums put forward in the Hacks and Expansions subforum of the Mouse Guard forums an idea for a Rangers of the North hack for Mouse Guard. Basic idea is that players are a band of DĂșnedain Rangers in the 4th Age of Middle-earth. Brilliant idea and, with his permission (and collaboration), I ran with it. Over a couple of weeks, I wrote out about 30-some pages of the first draft with Scott's concept at its core. (Lots of feedback on the forums, also, and most of it contributed to the hack.)

Over time, it became a 45-page hack, and is on version 1.4 (publicly, though v1.5 is about ready).

Anyway, in an interview for the Walking Eye Podcast, Luke Crane mentioned Realm Guard as an "amazing -- freaking amazing" hack (28m00s through to 28m40s the podcast). I was a bit blown away. There was a question about hacks, and, as I was listening, I thought: "It'd be wicked if he mentioned Realm Guard somewhere in here" but I honestly never figured he would. But he did, and gave a very glowing mention. Astonished, my face went slack, then I geekily called in my girlfriend and made her listen, my face glowing.

So yeah. Wow. I think that's as close as I'll ever get to any kind of recognition as a RPG writer or whatever, so that was my 20 seconds in the sun, along with Scott (Saint&Sinner), who, as mentioned, came up with the initial concept. I guess the big thing for me was to get such enthusiastic acknowledgement from a designer/writer whose games completely revolutionized how I approach gaming.

It's cool shit.
